Back in 1988, the National Council decided to let councils start their Cub Scout Resident Camp.  In the Mount Lassen Area Council, the camp committee felt the best way to introduce the program was to hold a fall Family Camp Weekend targeted for Cub Scout families.  The hope was that if we did a good job on a weekend program, we would be able to recruit a Cub Camp Committee to plan and organize a five day overnight camp program for the following summer.  

The weekend was a great success, as over 350 local Cubs and their families came up to enjoy a weekend of Scout Camp program, relaxation, and fellowship.  Little did we know that some twenty years later the Family Camp Weekend would still be going strong and still be hosted by an all-volunteer staff. It’s a weekend where all the program areas are open, and you just wander in and enjoy.

In 2009, the 75th Anniversary was held on the same weekend as Family Camp.  The alumni celebration not only was a complement to the Family Camp Program, but we found that this was a great way to host our gathering.  As we start the Association, we will host an annual meeting and year end gathering during Family Camp in-between the five and ten year major reunions.  The Association will be sponsoring Family Camp as one of our fundraisers.

If you miss the big event and reunions, or you just want to go camping for the weekend this is a perfect time to come up and enjoy the camp.
